Meet The Team

Alex Monaco (CEO/Host)

Alex.Monaco@xtraordinarysports.com

Hello everyone. My name is Alex Monaco and I am the creator and CEO of Xtra Ordinary Sports. I'm a 21 year old kid from San Diego California with dreams of turning X.O.S. into the biggest online sports network in the world. My whole approach to the world of sports media is different than most. Living by our theme "Xtra Ordinary", I encourage everyone involved in X.O.S. to be themselves. Take me for example. This whole thing started when I was invited to a Cam Newton Pro day last year at my old high school. I was told I could maybe ask Cam one question if I were to be so lucky. Boy did I exceed expectations. I ended up having an outrageous conversation with Cam that went anywhere from talking about breakfast foods, to why aren't there basements on the West Coast, to how awesome him and Tim Tebow would be if they both started from the same shotgun formation. Then, I tossed him a football, went out on a 25 yard post pattern, caught it, and proceeded to do the infamous "T.O. on the Dallas Star throw up my arms on their logo dance", and got Cam to absolutely crack up. I realized at that moment, that if I could capture the same enthusiasm that Cam evoked that day in future interviews with other athletes by simply being myself, that maybe people just might take to it. Since then I've sumo wrestled with Matt Barnes, got skunked 8-0 in beach volleyball using a 10 pound medicine ball against Ryan Clark of the Pittsburgh Steelers, had to do the Carlton Dance for the Rams, Austin Pettis, because my shuttle time wasn't as fast as his, and the list goes on. Case in point, I'm all about bringing the sincerity and genuine moments of the athletes out for everyone to enjoy. Now that I've been able to build a fan base, it's my goal as a servant leader to help manifest each and every player on our team at X.O.S. Every player on this team will be bringing the same outrageous "Xtra Ordinary" mentality to their repertoire while serving you the fans, with as much of a combination of knowledge and entertainment as we possibly can. So sit back and enjoy your time here at Xtra Ordinary Sports because we're working for you!

Joe Fann

Joe.Fann@xtraordinarysports.com

Hey everybody, my name is Joe Fann and I am proudly from the beautiful emerald city of Seattle, Washington. I'll be your northwest connection as well as your insider for everything hoops. I've been a Seattle sports nut for the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sonics (sad face) my entire life. Growing up with some of the best voices in the game, I too aspire to be a sports broadcaster. If I'm not on the mic for my radio show or calling a Chapman University athletic event, I can probably be found on a basketball court somewhere reliving the high school glory days. I am currently working as a Public Relations intern for the Los Angeles Lakers and I'm also a member of the production teams for the Angels and the Ducks. You can find me on Twitter @Joe_Fann or on my youtube channel at JoeCFann

Tommy Miers

Tommy.Miers@xtraordinarysports.com

Welcome sports fans of all shapes and sizes.  My name is Tommy Miers and I am a Junior Public Relations and Advertising major/English minor at Chapman University.  Currently I am an intern at Rep 1 Sports Agency, which is a sports agency for NFL players, but my first love is baseball. I’m from the East Bay and have been a diehard Giants, 49ers, Sharks, and Warriors fan since birth. So lets get after it, to begin: the DH isn’t a real position, everyone was on steroids, and I could care less if there’s a keg in every clubhouse across the country. Now we can move on to the real issues.

Vince Sapienza

Vince.Sapienza@xtraordinarysports.com

I am Vince Sapienza a recent graduate from Chapman University with a degree in Television/Broadcast Journalism. I have been obsessed with sports ever since I was a young gun and have not looked back. I played soccer in college for about the same amount of time it took me to write this biography, but I love to write and talk about the beautiful game. It is no secret that my sports allegiance lies in the heart of Denver, CO. I enjoy spirited discussion on all sports and love to share my thoughts and opinions with fellow sports fans. I have been blessed to be able to interview numerous sports athletes, attend many sporting events, and talk about it all. I currently host a radio show on kaoticradio.com every Monday from 4pm-7pm. I am always on the hunt to find interesting sports stories and love feedback. I also intern at Fox Sports Radio on the JT "The Brick" Show.

Pete Evenson

Pete.Evenson@xtraordinarysports.com

You can leave it up to Pete Evenson to always talk the most trash on the basketball court. And yes, he is able to back it up. Whether he’s on the court or in the office, Pete has always been a driven individual. Pete is a Los Angeles native, who grew up rockin’ Bulls jerseys until ’98 and Lakers jerseys ever since. Inspired by the opportunity to combine sports and all things “out of the ordinary,” Pete joined Xtra Ordinary Sports as a full-time blog contributor. Prior to joining Xtra Ordinary Sports, Pete has worked as the Vice President of Business Development for Evenson Design Group and in marketing and development for USC Institute for Creative Technologies. In 2010, Pete worked for the sports agency, Lagardère Unlimited, where he assisted with contract negotiations and risk/financial analysis for NBA players under Dan Fegan. He was also part of the Students Taking the Right Step (S.T.A.R.S) intern program for Warner Brothers where he helped develop the SAP Vanguard Project for their Home Video Department, the highest-grossing department at Warner Bros. Pete received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with emphases in marketing and entrepreneurship from Chapman University. At Chapman, Pete was on the men’s basketball team and enjoys playing the greatest sport in the world today. If you ever want to challenge Pete one-on-one, be sure to send him a tweet or find him on Facebook.

Thomas Haggerty

Thomas.Haggerty@xtraordinarysports.com

Hey guys, my name is Thomas Haggerty. I’m coming to you from Phoenix by way of Orange County California and Xtra Ordinary sports. I grew up playing about every sport in the book, but as the competition heated up I was forced to choose one focus. Accordingly, I took my talents to the diamond, playing year round for eight years. After high school I initially came to Chapman University to play baseball but due to intense competition and my lack of desire to continue on, I chose a new direction. The following year I honed my golf skills and was successful in making my mark on collegiate golf. I am currently a second semester senior anticipating my graduation with a degree in real estate and finance. While the stock market is likely up on my laptop, there is zero doubt that Sportscenter is on in the background. I am very passionate about my Phoenix/Arizona teams and will rep them till the day I die! I’ll be coming to you with news from around the diamond all over the league, as well as a few blurbs here in there regarding the teams I love so dearly. Feel free to tweet me @TomasHaggerty or contact me on my blog page with any questions or comments.

Sammy Cemo

Sammy.Cemo@xtraordinarysports.com

What is up y’all! My name is Sammy Cemo and I am proudly from Sacramento California where I grew up and still am a die-hard Sacramento Kings, San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. I live and die by my teams and am willing to engage in any discussion about the greatness of my organizations. I am currently a redshirt sophomore at Chapman University where I am a Communication Studies major and Leadership Studies minor, but most importantly I am Midfielder/Man-Up Specialist on the men’s lacrosse team. I grew up playing just about every sport you could imagine but excelled at Jesuit High School in lacrosse. I have a love for everything sports, from coaching to game play and everything in between. I live in the gym and on the field with occasional visits to class and the library and am here to cover everything you want to know about our obsession with competitive athletics.

Mack Shaw

Mack.Shaw@xtraordinarysports.com

Name is Mack Shaw, a Senior, or lack thereof, at Chaptown University majoring in Communications and minoring in lacrosse. I am from the infamous Scottsdale, Arizona, home of Cactus League Spring Training and way too many Ed Hardy shirts. In 2007 I was diagnosed with the incurable disease that is the LeBron addiction. Symptoms include Jerseys, shirts, shoes, socks, shorts, and headbands. Show me a bigger LeBron fan and I’ll show you a liar. I played just about every organized team sport at some point in high school, yes, even playing in National DIII Amateur Paintball competition. Currently, I am a defensive Midfielder and the unofficial team masseuse and hair stylist for Chapman’s men lacrosse team and the defensemen proudly wearing the #69 sweater on the ice hockey team. I am a fantasy sports junkie for just about any sport, specialty being baseball. I’ll be covering everything from fantasy sport predictions and stats, my ignorant opinions, throwback jerseys, and all around the good, the bad, and the ugly (I’m looking at you Chris Kaman) of the sporting world.

Haley Hull

Haley.Hull@xtraordinarysports.com

Yes, I’m a girl, from Southern California, who loves ice hockey. Quite rare but XTRAORDINARY. My name is Haley Hull, I’m from sunny Orange County where most people prefer flip flops and the sand, yet I prefer skates and the ice. Currently a freshman at Chapman University where I study Broadcast Journalism in hopes of becoming your future trophy NHL sportscaster. With a dad from Toronto, Canada I have been forced to treat hockey as my religion (as it should be treated) and have known nothing but ice hockey for my entire life. I study the WHL, CHL, USHL, OHL, QMJHL, NCAA, NAHL and of course the NHL, more than I study for any test. I believe in the church of the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions, the Anaheim Ducks and pray to Teemu Selanne. I bleed orange, black, and gold. I am an NHL prospect encyclopedia. I live by the motto of the great Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. I want to make this interesting so every week I’ll be picking a player of the week from ANY hockey league and I want YOUR opinion and feedback. Feel free to e-mail me or follow me/tweet me on twitter @haleyfh if you want to hear more about the fabulous sorority-girl-hockey-loving life of Haley Forrest Hull.

Wes Connolly

Wes.Connolly@xtraordinarysports.com

My name is Wes Connolly and I am originally from the Napa valley in the bay area. Growing up I was strongly influenced by my family's involvement with football. My grandfather was drafted by the san Francisco 49ers in 1954. He went to the pro bowl in 1961 and was traded the next year to the Cleveland browns to block for Jim Brown. He revolutionized the game, being one of the very first players to employ an agent for contract negotiations. My father also played college football at St. Mary's in Ca. So as soon as I could start, I began playing full contact football and never looked back. Through out my years (and growth spurts), I've played nearly every position. I learned a thing or two about the game along the way which gives me the back round to discuss the national football league in this blog.

Sammy Santana

Sammy.Santana@xtraordinarysports.com

My name is Sammy Santana and I hail from St. Louis, Missouri. I am a communications major with leadership minor. I’ve grown up playing and watching basically every sport possible, which gives me a perspective and out look that can transcend from any sport to any team. I really like to indulge in the behind the scenes stories that make the athlete, coach and person you see on the TV making big bucks. I consider myself a natural at all sports Information and anything and everything that has to do with winning and competition. I have a non-bias but loud opinion on everything that comes out my mouth. So if you want some knowledge dropped on you about sports, I'm your go to guy.

Kevin.Ferrer@xtraordinarysports.com

Rise and grind folks, my name is Kevin Ferrer and I’m coming to you live from Orange California. I grew up a stones throw away from the Angels, and Ducks home fields and from a very young age I was involved in soccer, basketball, wrestling, and football. In high school I excelled in Football and wrestling. And that’s when the idea of coaching truly blossomed. Sports have been an influential part of how I’ve grown up and one-day hope to have the same effect on my players. I love every aspect of sports and can talk for days about it. From coaching decision to player reactions the world sports is something special. If there’s one thing that I love more than sports its sneakers. That has lead me to my school of choice. FIDM. It’s the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in Los Angeles and I am majoring in Business Management and Footwear design. (Tinker Hatfield you can step down...soon) But for now I am just working towards having my skills pay off and showcasing the Xtra-Ordinary talents that reside in sunny southern California. Try it. The juice is always fresh.

Brendan Hurley

Brendan.Hurley@xtraordinarysports.com

Hey everybody, my name is Brendan Hurley. I was born and raised in what some may refer to as a sports Mecca just outside Boston, MA. With that I'm been blessed enough to grow up and witness every one of my favorite sports teams win at least one championship in my short life span thus far. Although it may seem easy to be Boston sports fan these days, things were a lot different over 10 years ago. I'm currently a senior at Chapman University. I grew up playing and competing in almost any sport you could think of. As much as a fan I am of my hometown and sports teams, I am a fan of sports first. I'm looking forward to covering everything sports, and sharing my thoughts and knowledge with Xtra Ordinary Sports.

Jordan Siao

Jordan.Siao@xtraordinarysports.com

My name is Jordan Siao and I am a Finance and Real Estate Major, with an Advertising Minor graduating from Chapman University in May 2012. My expertise will be focused on the game of golf. I have extensive experience in the game of golf, having played Varsity golf throughout High School and I spent the last four years competing in the NCAA Division III SCIAC League. I played golf casually growing up, going to the driving range two or three times a year. I was more focused on basketball, tennis, and competitive sparring. When I was 16–years old, I decided to devote all my time towards learning how to play golf over the course of my summer break prior to freshmen year in High School. I am most proud of the success I saw early on in my golf career. Having only played golf competitively for two years, I won 5th place at the Washington State Tournament during my sophomore year of High School, and I won our Division’s District Tournament my senior Year.   I spend a lot of time following golf in the media through various magazine articles, tournaments, interviews, and books. Over my seven-year career of playing competitive golf, I have worked with several different swing coaches, which has helped me gain a substantial understanding of golf swing mechanics. With that said, what I am truly passionate about is sports psychology. I view golf as the most vigorous test of mental strength and persistence in all of competitive sports. I have read multiple books and articles about the mental game of golf and how being in a sound state of mind yields performance-based results. I am truly fascinated by how mental mechanics transcend to physical performance in not only golf and sports, but life in general. My writing will keep you updated on not only the latest golf news, but also provide some insight on sports psychology.

Dean Sewitz

Dean.Sewitz@xtraordinarysports.com

Hey sports world! My name is Dean Sewitz, and I'm a sports freak just like you! I am extremely excited to share my thoughts and opinions about everything sports related with you guys. Let me start off by telling you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles. I have always felt blessed that I grew up in LA because I truly feel that LA is the mecca of sports (minus football, thats a sore subject for us Angelinos at the moment). I grew up playing soccer and basketball. Luckily my soccer skills were good enough to get me a scholarship to play Division 1 soccer at Philadelphia University. Then, after 3 years of playing in Philly, I transferred to Chapman University and finished my soccer career in beautiful Orange County. After graduating college in 2010, I was able to get a job working at Fox Sports for the nationally televised highlight show "The Final Score". Basically, I was paid to watch sports and create highlight clips that aired nationally. I know, terrible job. Currently, I am residing in Hollywood, where I promote some of the most exclusive nightclubs in the city on the weekends. Anyways, I'm looking forward to sharing my opinions with you guys! Cheers!

Tyler Alton

Tyler.Alton@xtraordinarysports.com

So I am a 21 year old Junior who attends the University of Tampa, in Tampa, Florida. I am from Saint Louis, and am a huge Cardinals Fan. I have loved sports since I was a young boy because of the way my dad and grandpa would always update me on scores and we'd have discussions about various sports topics. I dont recall the very first game I ever went to be but I do know I have been a fan of sports and have kept up with statistics, scores and player updates for the last 7 or 8 years of my life. Every day I try to either read the USA today or look online for what's new in the sports world. Also, I have competed in Tennis for my high school team and cross country as well as track one year. I never made it to the varsity level but have played tennis since I was 8 years old and I ran cross country for 6 years in middle school and high school. Lastly, my favorite sports are probably Baseball and Footbal (despite the way the Rams have played recently), and my least favorite is probably Nascar or Golf.

Ryan.Hellmich@xtraordinarysports.com

What's up everyone! My name is Ryan Hellmich and I am from the beautiful Lake Forest, California. I grew up basically watching and playing almost all sports. I am a HUGE San Diego Chargers, Detroit Red Wings, and USC Trojans fan. I do dabble with other sports like baseball and basketball and support the Anaheim Angels (not the stupid Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and the Los Angeles Lakers, but I am not a die-hard fan. I am currently a junior student-athlete at Chapman University where I study Business and Accounting and play midfield for the lacrosse team. My passion is sports and getting an education at a slight discount is just a bonus, and with that being said I will be here to help cover anything and/or everything you want/need to know about the wild world of sports. Toodles.

Mele Mosqueda

Mele.Mosqueda@xtraordinarysports.com

What it do. My name is Mele Mosqueda. I am from Southern California, more specifically from Huntington Beach. I would classify myself as an athlete and an avid sports fan. I have loved and played sports my entire life. I played football, baseball, soccer and ran track in high school. From there I bumped my skills to the junior college level at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. There I continued with my football dreams and ran a little track during the “off-season” in order to get my speed up. Without realizing it, I was headed to ball some D1 football at UNLV, but ended up getting hurt and could not fulfill that aspiration. Luckily, I ended up at Chapman University in Orange, CA. Came to play football and ended up falling in love with lax and school. I am currently playing some semi-professional football down the road with the Southern California Gladiators. I play cornerback. I am a Spanish and Kinesiology Major. I have lived the in-and-outs, the ups-and-downs of playing college football. I have loved every minute of it, even losing in championship games. I would not trade it for anything. I love training (from in the gym to on the field for fieldwork and sprints). I love pushing my body to the limit. That is why I have recently picked up the “Cross fit” lifestyle. I would have to say that I know what it takes to excel and fail at the collegiate level. I have had my share of coaches and football programs and I will bring forth my expertise to all of you.
